Hi as you may have guessed my names David =D. I thought I might get on the band wagon of blogging, not too late of a starter =P. I am currently at Teesside University studying 'BA Computer Animation' and im setting up this blog to motivate me to do work and to show anyone that's interrested the work that I have been doing and will continue to do =D. Timothy the Toaster Twit - He Lives!!!
As you can see in these latest pictures I have redesigned the arms of the toaster. Before they were directly attached to the body of the toaster but I had too many problems enveloping the character as I did not want the metal part of the toaster to move when the arms moved. So instead I decided to detach the arms and give him more toy like arms that move on a pivot.
Here is a link to a turnaround of my toaster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z267W58mW4
After the turnaround I decided to start animating the toaster - so I started with a walk cycle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XAFM-9kOtg

Toaster Renders
After two grueling weeks of rigging - I have finally finished my rig. I have now moved on to enveloping my toaster and as you can see here there are still a few problems with the envelope that I hope to sort out soon. Not only have I started enveloping - I have tried my hand at some shape animation for the mouth and have added smile, sad and closed mouth shapes. I had a lot of fun playing around with the shape manager within XSI and advise anyone to have a go =P.
Once I have finished enveloping the Toaster I will then move on to primary animation movements to show the range of movements possible without breaking the rig.Wednesday, 10 November 2010
Toster Advancements =D
Now that I've finished the toster concept i've moved on to the process of modelling Timothy the Toster Twit. Here you can see is a very simple low res version of my toster, I still have quite a few refinements to make on it but it's a step in the right direction.
I don't like th mouth at the moment and don't think that it will deform in the right manner for the kind of facial animation I am hoping to achieve.
After that base of the modelling is complete I want to move it in to Mudbox to sculpt the arms to make them more realistic.

Space House Project =D
I decided that I did not want to just finish with this and that I wanted to make a whole scene from this one house. Firstly I set about modelling a white picket fence around the outside of the house and then the drive way and pathway to compliment it. This is a wire frame of the finished result:
After this I wasen't sure what I wanted to do either I go down the route of making a whole idealic american street scene with trees and bushes to match the house but I thought this to be a bit too boring. So I decided to re-invent the space scene but this time without a space ship but rather a floating house. I started modeling the lump of earth that the house is connected to (almost like pandora-esk floating islands, except mine makes sence as it's in space =P). Here is what it looks like so far:
I modeled the ground by simply painting weights onto a grid and connecting the weight map to a push deformer. I then went onto texturing the ground - I wanted it too look as if it had just been ripped from the surface of the earth with lushous grass still growing happily ontop.
This is how far I have come. The most difficulty that I always have is how to make it look more realistic but it is a floating house in space so how realistic can I expect =P.
